Working with Children Check

The Victorian Government has legislated and advised Basketball Victoria that people working in Basketball, from domestic through to representative competitions, must undergo a Working With Children Check.

Basketball Victoria Working with Children Check Advice document can be found here.

This means that all the following must apply for, or already have a Working with Children Check:

  • Committee Members

  • Coaches (including any Assistant Coaches)

  • Team Managers

Applying for a Working with Children (WWC) Check is free for volunteers.    The website to make an online application is:

www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au

Membership Protection  Statutory Declaration

Member Protection Declaration

In addition, Basketball Victoria has introduced a Statutory Declaration to be completed by each person required to undergo a Working With Children Check. This declaration covers a variety of matters outside the Working With Children Checks. The Member Protection Declaration must be witnessed by an authorised party (as listed at the bottom of the Declaration).

Whilst we appreciate the extra time necessary to complete and sign the Declaration, it is a requirement of Basketball Victoria and will ensure that we are legally covered should any unforeseen complications or situations arise throughout the season. whereby we need the support of Basketball Victoria.

A Membership Protection Declaration document can be found here.
